One man has been arrested in connection with a small fire that was set outside the prime minister’s official residence at 24 Sussex Drive.

The RCMP arrested the man around 9:15 p.m. ET Saturday after he was spotted pouring something flammable on the sidewalk just outside the residence and then lighting it.

There was no damage and no one was injured. It wasn’t immediately clear if the prime minister and his family were home at the time. But Ottawa police said they were never in any danger.A file picture of the prime minister's official residence at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa.A file picture of the prime minister’s official residence at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa.

The man’s name hasn’t been released and, as of early Sunday, no charges had been laid.

The suspect will make a court appearance later Sunday or on Monday, an Ottawa police spokesman said.
