RCMP have busted a counterfeit currency ring it says was operating in Metro Vancouver and pumped $300,000 in fake bills into circulation across Western Canada.

The Mountie’s Integrated Counterfeit Enforcement Team moved in Thursday to arrest six people and raid two properties, one in Vancouver and other in Coquitlam, B.C.

Bogus Canadian currency — most of it 100’s, 50’s and 20’s — was seized during the raid, along with blank credit cards, computers and production equipment.

Police say the counterfeit bills were circulated throughout B.C., Manitoba and Alberta over the past 10 months.

They estimate the ring was responsible for 80 per cent of all counterfeit cash passed in B.C. since late last year.

Four men in their 20s, expect to face various counterfeiting charges while two women, also in their 20s, have been released and appear in court at a later date.
