Maple Leaf sausages recalled in Western Canada

OTTAWA — Maple Leaf Foods has recalled two brands of sausage sold at stores across the western half of the country because of undeclared milk ingredients which could cause allergic reactions, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced Tuesday.

Country Morning Garlic Sausage Ring (sold in 1-kg quantities) and Olympic Fine Meats Ukrainian Garlic Sausage, sold both at deli counters and in packages ranging from 1-1.5 kg, were found to have “milk which is not declared on the label.”

No allergic reactions have been linked to the consumption of the sausages, but Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, based in Mississauga, Ont., has recalled all of the products still available for purchase.

The sausages were sold in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and in the Ontario cities of Kenora and Thunder Bay.

CFIA warned that “consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk.”
