Four Quebecers to be honoured for bravery

MONTREAL – Three Montreal police officers and a St. Narcisse resident are to be awarded medals of bravery by Governor-General Michaelle Jean, it was announced yesterday. Sgt. Patrick Lalonde and Constables Lionel Girault and Jean Milliard were cited for their actions on July 12, 2001, in arresting an armed bank robber. Hearing that a police officer had been shot at a nearby bank, the three officers located the suspect trying to escape in a taxi. They followed in separate patrol cars and blocked his way. He ran to another cab, holding a gun to the driver’s head. The officers blocked his escape, then fired several shots, wounding the suspect, who surrendered. On July 4, 2008, Guy Lavoieof St. Narcisse, about35 kilometres north of Trois Rivieres, rescued an injured woman trapped in a burning vehicle in Rimouski.
